At it’s core Nebraska.gov is an extension of the Nebraskan government. It provides the constituents a channel to reach their state services anywhere an internet connection can be found. Through the partnership with Nebraska Interactive the content development, maintenance, hosting, and service enhancements are all free of charge using the self-funded model. The website redesign alone was built at no cost and is estimated at a staggering $105,652.00 in savings to the government.
Nebraska.gov was built to produce a seamless connection of citizen to government services online. This facilitates government efficiencies, reduces government expenses, and provides immeasurable citizen convenience. A truly successful website is one that is usable. Successful user experience is achieved by content mapping, and design focusing on the mobile user. The welcoming homepage displays inspiring scenic videos in the background representing the demographic diversity in the state. Subtle animation and parallax create a dynamic experience. The navigation allows the user to locate what they seek in one of three ways: The Google custom search, scrolling through tiles, or utilizing the top navigation. The search has been optimized to provide the most relevant results through labeling and tagging. Nebraska.gov displays contact information in the footer with access to LiveChat and social media easily identifiable through icons. Accessibility across devices, operating systems and browsers is accomplished using Twitter Bootstrap framework, and LESS CSS pre-processing, and Jekyll for static site templating. Nebraska.gov features a 2-minute video for an enjoyable tour of the new Ne.gov website.
