A+E Networks asked us a question that was as ambitious as it was simple: how can they better own history in the digital space?
With a challenge in place and no creative brief to work off of, we got down to business and created Asterisk – the first, all-digital brand to explore modern culture through the lens of history.
Asterisk aims to make history relevant to our 18-34 year old audience by telling the unknown stories of everything in an authentic, irreverent voice they recognize as their own. The brand features premium original content created for sharing across the social web, and offers marketing partners native advertising solutions customized for their brands and products.
RED developed the brand and all aspects of the platform, and architected it from end-to-end along with a go-to-market strategy, & sales planning. This included the brand ethos, look, and attitude, as well as an authentic, humorous voice that would work for all of our original content types: written articles, video series, and social posting on all platforms. We are also responsible for the ongoing product and technology development, content strategy and execution.
Asterisk is the newest member of the A+E family. It all adds up to a new way for millennials to look at history – and most importantly, a new way for them to look at the world around them.
