One Call Concepts (OCC), the company behind the popular tagline, “Call before you dig,” wanted to provide better access to training materials and its internal ticketing system. Their newly created mobile app acts as a hub of easily-accessible resources, in addition to improving the process for a user to submit a ticket.
The main factor that prompted the app's development is the issue of submitting a ticket while in the field. Before the app, users needed to record info while on-location, and then transfer it while back at their computer. Interactivity of the app included a map feature to select the ticket area and the ability to check ticket status.
The developers demonstrated creativity from the start because of a major requirement: the app had to scale across several states, so the design and functionality needed to be replicable at scale.
The end product was a clean interface that brings modernization to construction and excavation with instant access to ticketing, training resources and support. The resources are delivered through APIs with third-party sources instead of native content to help streamline the build. The app includes a video player, document browser, and integrates with each state partner's system for registration and authentication.
It was created for iOS and Android with a separate version for iPad to maintain a more desktop-like experience. This totaled 36 unique builds across 17 states.
