During the first two months of the COVID crisis in America, the City of San Antonio (COSA) Texas was facing a crushing demand of emergency assistance applications. Faced with a paper-based process and suddenly working from home, combined with a recently approved $50 million increase in relief funding that needed to be distributed, city administrators needed help.
With the help of Kinetech, COSA deployed a comprehensive digital Housing Assistance solution, using Kinetech’s low-code Government Technology (GovTech) solution, to accelerate the screening, notification, and delivery of much-needed emergency housing aid to citizens impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The new application brings the entire process online for rental, mortgage, utility, and relocation assistance, replacing a time-consuming manual process. Less than a day after deployment, residents initiated over 1,100 applications via the new app; during peak demand, the application has handled intake of more than 3,000 applications in a single day. To date over 28,000 applications have been processed and over $50 Million in funds distributed to San Antonio's most vulnerable residents. The application is also bi-lingual to appeal to the widest population possible while allowing the city to conduct business operations with their constituents in their native / preferred language.
