My Mental Health Crisis Plan lets individuals take an active role in their mental health care. The app lets you create and share a psychiatric advance directive (PAD). This helps make sure you are prepared in case of a mental health crisis.
In your crisis plan, the app allows you to:
• Clearly state your treatment preferences
• Choose who can make decisions on your behalf
• Share your crisis plan with doctors and other members of the care team
Family members can even help a loved one create a crisis plan using the app. Individuals can share their crisis plan via QR code or via native sharing features.
This app is important because with serious mental illness, crises can be difficult to predict. Sometimes there are no warning signs. Crises can occur even when individuals follow treatment plans and work with mental health professionals. Unfortunately, the nature of mental illness is unpredictable. That is why it is important to plan ahead and create a PAD. A PAD allows an individual to make their treatment preferences known. That way, if and when a crisis occurs, they have a voice in their care.
My Mental Health Crisis Plan is completely FREE and available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It was launched in April 2020 by SMI Adviser. SMI Adviser is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and administered by the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
