You’ve probably heard of hepatitis A, B, and C, but did you know there is also hepatitis D? Hepatitis D, or hep delta, is a liver infection that even people who are at risk have never heard of. Most doctors don’t test for or know much about hep delta.
“What Is Hep Delta?” was born out of a necessity to educate our audience so they get tested before it’s too late. We specifically target people who have hep B, since that is the main precursor to getting hep D.
A huge challenge for us was that the population consists of immigrants from many different countries with varying native languages and, in many cases, a deeply rooted distrust of doctors. Because of this, we placed a strong emphasis on word choice. We used words people in the early stages of learning English would understand, and words that are spelled as they sound.
Knowing that our audience would be engaging on mobile devices more than desktops, we ensured that our strategy included an emphasis on keeping the site highly visual. Additionally, the language barrier steered us to rely on illustrations to represent each point we were trying to get across. Through this, we were able to tell the story of what hep delta is without bogging down the site with complex definitions and figures.
