When We All Vote is a leading national, nonpartisan initiative to change the culture around voting and to increase voter participation by helping to close the race and age gap. Created by Michelle Obama, When We All Vote brings together individuals, institutions, brands, and organizations to register new voters across the country and advance civic education to build an informed and engaged electorate.
Our challenge was to create an accessible and easily navigable website that answers the questions and addresses many of the issues faced by voters from under-represented and marginalized communities, making it easier for them to participate in the voting process. The information needed to be useful yet compact, comprehensive but not confusing, and presented on a platform that was aesthetically pleasing and inviting.
One of our principal goals was to design a site that was friendly yet unconventional. An important aspect of that approach can be seen in the WWAV website’s color palette. We avoided choices such as red, white and blue that are overly obvious and freighted with heavy symbolism. Instead, the site emphasizes colors that are bold and often energizing.
With When We All Vote, Rhythm realized the crucial civic function that the site would serve. Above all, we wanted to take anxiety and guesswork out of the voting experience, and we strived to create a place that felt safe and welcoming as well as informative.
