About the Entry

Comedy Central, in partnership with Roundarch Isobar, launched the CC: Stand-Up app for iPad and iPhone. The app gives fans free access to Comedy Central’s massive library, including hundreds of comedians with over 6,000 clips from yesterday and today. This groundbreaking video app is a standalone extension of Comedy Central that brings hours of content directly to mobile devices in new and exciting ways. At its simplest, CC: Stand-Up introduces the new digitally-distributed, pure stand-up channel. The channel, which is updated daily, allows fans to sit back and watch hours of programmed comedy with just one touch. The app also has an innovative tool for discovery, the visually-striking “Six Degrees of Stand-Up,” which uses a recommendation algorithm that enmeshes fans into an intricate web of comedic connections for discovering new comics. For example, after viewing Pete Holmes, Six Degrees generates a web of additional comedians based on similar sensibilities (i.e., alternative comedy), topics, who follows who on Twitter, and other relationships. At the end of the day, fans can now discover new talent based on these associations with comedians they already know and love. Finally, users can also enjoy an array of curated on-demand playlists, watch bits from a recent special or find “best of” comedians such as Aziz Ansari, Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress, John Oliver, Amy Schumer, John Mulaney, among many others. CC: Stand-Up app is a free, fun, cutting-edge new way to bring comedy lovers the top-shelf stand-up they’ve come to expect from Comedy Central.
